Uptime is a measure of the duration during which a service or application operates without any interruption or downtime. It is a direct indicator of the reliability of the service.
While many firms consider 99.999% as excellent availability, the ultimate goal is to achieve 100% uptime in order to ensure an uninterrupted user experience.
Uptime monitoring is a method to ensure and check the health of all services and systems. In case of an outage or downtime, it helps teams work on the incident by alerting them, and incident managers take the case forward for troubleshooting.
Tools to use for Uptime monitoring
Almost every APM tool today provides uptime monitoring tools. This mostly includes pinging your web page or an endpoint periodically from data centres locations in different locations, trying to check availbility. In some cases, you can extend the monitoring to include some tests like form filling or button click to chec responsiveness of the application.
